Edited by: Hawk Firestorm on 19/03/2005 02:14:16 I have to agree with alot of this.
Basic problems with eve come to it's design, which CCP has persistanly refused to even look at never mind discuss with it's player base.
The fitting system needs to go, as CPU/Pwr is too simplistic and allows for extremes which in turn makes it impossible to balance the game.
Agents just encourage Empire hugging instead of players migrating out into 0 Space.
Tactical Combat and indeed any form of strategy in game is simply non existant, if I didn't know better I would say they were attempting to make the game more favourable to E&B players, only they kinda forgot where E&B ended up.
If they want to put in tactical combat then far as I can see it would involve some changes to the control interface, locking out the Z axis and putting in something SFC style with shield facings etc, with system wide objectives and some concrete methods of actually conquering space, which simply doesn't exist now.
Fleet combat isn't really feasable not just because of blob wars, but because of abismal perfomance in any grp activety, mostly caused by graphical effects such as torps, and problems with their serverside code, has caused grp activety to go down the toilet in exodus.
Way too many corps for the player base, actively encouraging players to use multi's which upsets the economy, poor design that allows for scamming etc and manipulation of the market.
In fairness alot of the problems are caused by the simple fact of the complexity of what they are trying to do. But also it's fair to say they are consistantly goofing up, by not idetifing the actual critical parts of the games design which are dragging it down and addressing them, but instead trying to throw the player base a bone of a new ship etc.
No ammount of new ships is going to improve gameplay and flawed design.
Get back to basics, get the problem areas such as fitting, that's stopping you getting the game in balance, and look long and hard at the overall games design like a engine where all the parts conect to each other and effect each other instead of the tunnel vision approach you've been using, as alot of the games problems stem from fundamental flaws in the games design at a basic level.
The games rapidly becoming a skill training sim rather than enjoyable gameplay, which is also a major turn off.
Basically guys pull ya socks up cos the natives are getting really really restless, and no ammount of titans etc is gonna make em happy for more than a week.
